Foundation Models, machine learning models that are pre-trained on a variety of open-world data and then specialized to specific downstream tasks, are fast becoming a dominant paradigm in AI. At Carnegie Mellon, we have a large number of researchers working on different aspects of these models, from new algorithmic approaches, to evaluation methods, to assesing their broader impact. The CMU Foundation and Language Model (FLAME) Center is a broad coallition of faculty working on these topics, with events, projects, and computing resources available for members.
